(All Day/7-8 Hours) - This training will equip participants with tools and techniques to work effectively with adolescents engaged in suicidal and self-injurious behavior. Teenagers presenting with these behaviors need specific interventions designed to target risk factors contributing to overwhelming painful feelings.. Attendees will learn how to differentiate between non-suicidal forms of self-injury and more life threatening forms of self-injury, learn specific suicide assessment techniques, and gain dozens of strategies to utilize with teens in crisis including where to access additional resources. This training is geared toward anyone working with adolescents including (but not limited to) therapists, social workers, teachers, and school administration.
(2-3 hours) - This training is geared toward counselors and social workers who may be working with suicidal patients and meeting them for the first time. When working with these patients, clinicians are challenged from the very beginning of treatment with the task of conducting a comprehensive assessment in order to determine the possibility of life threatening behavior without having yet established relationship with their client. In this unique training, attendees will learn the 3 essential targets to address in the very first interview with the suicidal patient and through numerous case studies, attendees will also leave with numerous “go-to” strategies designed to quickly communicate both understanding and validation without a lot of information from the very beginning of treatment.
